Updated for 2026 · Covers both office-based and online NTC ownership transfer
"Naam Sari" literally means "name change," and it is the official term Nepal Telecom uses for transferring a SIM card's registered ownership from one person to another. If you have been using a number that is still registered under a parent, sibling, previous owner, or a shop that originally activated it for you, Naam Sari is the process that legally puts it in your name.
Nepal Telecom currently runs two paths for this: the traditional office-based transfer, where both the old and new owner provide documents together, and a newer online-assisted process introduced in 2026 that lets you start the transfer from home and finish with a single office visit, even in some cases without the previous owner present.
Quick answer: Dial *922# to confirm the current registered name, then either visit the Naam Sari counter at your nearest Nepal Telecom office with both parties' documents, or start the process online at corporate.ntc.net.np/kyc if you qualify for the self-service route.
Two Ways to Complete Naam Sari
| Factor | Traditional office transfer | Online-assisted transfer (2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Transferring between two known, cooperating parties | Claiming a number you have used long-term but the original owner is unreachable |
| Previous owner needed in person | Usually yes, or a signed consent letter | Often not required if usage/call records prove your control of the number |
| Where to start | Nepal Telecom office, Naam Sari counter | corporate.ntc.net.np/kyc, then a single office visit |
| Availability | All Nepal Telecom offices nationwide | Rolling out gradually; currently available at select offices such as Babarmahal and Sundhara, Kathmandu, with wider expansion planned |
| Processing time | Around 5-10 minutes once documents are verified at the counter | Immediate transfer after in-person verification of submitted details |
Route 1: Traditional Office-Based Naam Sari
In-personThis is the standard route when both the current registered owner and the new owner are available and willing to cooperate.
Documents Required
- Photocopy of the previous (current registered) owner's citizenship certificate
- A signed consent/permission letter from the previous owner authorizing the transfer
- Photocopy of the new owner's citizenship certificate (original ID also carried for verification)
- One recent passport-size photo of the new owner
- Two Naam Sari application forms, filled in at the office with the new owner's details (samples are available at the counter)
- For a SIM registered under a company: the company's PAN registration certificate alongside the individual documents
Confirm current ownership
Dial *922# to verify who the SIM is currently registered to before starting the paperwork.
Gather documents from both parties
Collect citizenship copies from the previous and new owner, plus the consent letter and photo, before visiting the office to avoid a second trip.
Visit the Naam Sari counter
Go to any Nepal Telecom office and ask specifically for the SIM card Naam Sari department. Submit the completed forms with all supporting documents.
Verification and confirmation
Staff typically verify the documents within 5 to 10 minutes. Once approved, the new ownership details are updated immediately and you can confirm the change on the spot.
Route 2: Online-Assisted Transfer (2026 Update)
Online + one visitRecognizing that many long-term users cannot always locate the original SIM owner, Nepal Telecom introduced an online-assisted ownership claim process. It is aimed at prepaid GSM users who can demonstrate genuine, long-term use of a number that is not currently in their name.
Open the customer portal
Visit corporate.ntc.net.np/kyc/customer/index.php and select the SIM transfer or ownership claim option.
Verify with OTP
Enter your mobile number, complete the captcha, and request an OTP. Enter the code sent by SMS to log in.
Submit your details and usage proof
Fill in your personal information and provide proof of long-term, genuine use of the number, such as a list of recently dialed numbers, similar to the call-verification step used in standard KYC updates.
Choose your verification office and submit
Select your preferred Nepal Telecom office for the final check, then submit the application.
Complete the single office visit
Visit the selected office with your original citizenship certificate or NID. According to Nepal Telecom, once staff verify your call records and documents, ownership is transferred immediately, and in most cases the previous owner does not need to be present.
As of early 2026, the online-assisted transfer was in pilot phase and available at select offices, including Babarmahal and Sundhara in Kathmandu, with Nepal Telecom planning to expand it to branch offices nationwide. If your local office does not yet offer this option, the traditional Naam Sari route at the counter remains fully available.
