Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the energy your body burns simply staying alive — breathing, circulating blood, repairing cells — before you take a single step. Multiplying BMR by an activity factor gives your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE), which is the calorie number most people actually need for maintaining, losing, or gaining weight.

How the calorie formula works
This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, widely regarded by dietitians as the most accurate BMR formula for the general population, and applies one of five activity multipliers ranging from sedentary (1.2) to very active (1.9) to estimate your TDEE.

Waist-to-Hip and Waist-to-Height Ratio
